What qualifies

Competitive national production-support fund (not a rate-based incentive). Open to features, documentaries, short films, TV/web content, and animation. Selection by funding committee with milestone-based disbursement. As of the 2025/26 cycle, 259 filmmakers were approved for evaluation, 7 projects awarded festival support, and 9 received completion assistance. Part of a US$1 billion government commitment to revitalize the local industry.

Grants & funds

Grant funds and fellowships available to productions here, including national programs. Awarded competitively rather than earned on spend.

  • Jamaica Screen Development Initiative Development, Production and Completion Funding

Discretionary awards, not a rate on spend. Production grant up to J$30 million or 65% of project costs, whichever is less; interest-free production loan up to J$150 million or 45% of production costs; completion grant up to J$15 million or 65% of post-production costs; development grant up to J$800,000 or interest-free development loan up to J$4 million; festival and market grant up to J$800,000 or 65% of attendance costs; interest-free marketing and distribution loan up to J$4.5 million or 65% of distribution costs.

Minimum spend: None; production and completion awards require at least 40% of the production budget spent with Jamaican goods and service providers

How to apply

Register the production with the Jamaica Film Commission, then submit the Production Rebate Application for Provisional Approval to JAMPRO with a filming proposal, pitch deck, script and projected budget showing Jamaican spend. Awards of J$30 million or less are approved by the JAMPRO Board, J$31 million to J$59 million by the Minister, and J$60 million or more by Cabinet. Sign the Provisional Production Rebate Agreement before shooting; principal photography must start within 3 months (one 3-month extension). After wrap, submit audited financial statements from an auditor agreed with JAMPRO: up to 80% is paid on the audited spend and up to 20% after the public premiere and confirmation of the training, job-shadowing and workshop commitments.

The rule to remember

Feature films and TV series only, with a distributor commitment letter, a local production company, at least 50% Jamaican below-the-line crew and at least 20% Jamaican above-the-line, department head, key creative or lead talent (animation: 20% and 50%). The award is discretionary, and 20% of it is held back until the public premiere.

Common questions

What is the Jamaica film tax incentive rate?
Jamaica offers 10% on qualified in-state spend through the Jamaica Screen Development Initiative Production Rebate. It is a rebate. A cash payment back on qualified spend, usually after an audit. Like a grant in practice, though often funded from a capped pool.
What is the minimum spend for the Jamaica film incentive?
US$500,000 of eligible spend in Jamaica or on eligible Jamaican goods and services. Falling under the minimum is a total loss of the benefit, not a partial one — it is worth confirming the threshold before locking a budget.
Is the Jamaica film incentive transferable or refundable?
Neither transferable nor refundable, which limits its value to productions with in-state tax liability.

Verify before you budget. These figures come from our own incentives database and each shows when it was last reviewed — but programs change between funding cycles and legislative sessions. Confirm with the film office, or ask us, before a number goes into a budget.

QUICK CALCULATOR

What could Jamaica be worth?

A first-pass estimate with the arithmetic shown, so you can check it rather than trust it. Switch states right here to test the same budget elsewhere, or line up to five states up side by side on the compare page.

Compare with

Programs in a similar rate band. The mechanism matters as much as the percentage — a transferable credit at 30% is not the same money as a cash grant at 30%.
